Johnnie Candle has been fishing for a living since he was 17 years old when he began as a deck hand for his father’s Lake Erie charter boat service.
Upon graduation from the University of Akron with a BS in Marketing he took to the road and started what ended as a 29 year Professional Tournament career. His finishes were modest over the years but are anchored by his victory in the 2010 Masters Walleye Circuit World Walleye Championship. Through those years, Candle guided every day possible on Lake Erie, the Lower Niagara River, Lake Sakakawea, and Devils Lake, ND.
Today, Johnnie focuses on his guide service and educating the angling public on a variety of topics. His Walleye University Series has expanded to include several on-the-water schools and his Humminbird Marine Electronics training sessions place him on the road for nearly 30 seminars per year. He also host NBC ND’s Pro’s Pointers fishing tip segments 20 weeks per summer and has for the past 26 years.
Look for his monthly Devils Lake “LIVE” fishing seminars the first Wednesday of the month from May through October on the Devils Lake Tourism Facebook page.
