Devils Lake, ND — March 27, 2026 — The Devils Lake Visitors Committee is excited to announce the launch of a new Downtown Public Art Grant Program, an initiative designed to bring vibrant murals and public art to the heart of the community while boosting tourism and supporting local businesses.

 

This new program will provide matching grants of up to $5,000 per project to fund the creation of public murals throughout the downtown district. With a total program investment of $15,000 to $20,000, the initiative is expected to generate up to $40,000 in downtown improvements through private matching funds.

 

“Public art has the power to completely transform a space,” said Suzie Kenner, Executive Director. “This program is about more than murals—it’s about creating experiences, attracting visitors, and building pride in our downtown.”

 

Murals have become a proven driver of tourism in communities across the country, creating walkable destinations and highly shareable photo opportunities. Devils Lake plans to leverage this by developing a Downtown Mural Walk, complete with a map online and coordinated social media promotion to showcase the finished artwork.

 

In addition to enhancing the visual appeal of downtown, the program is designed to:

  • Support local and regional artists
  • Increase foot traffic for downtown businesses
  • Encourage community engagement and pride
  • Strengthen Devils Lake’s identity as a visitor destination

 

The program will be administered by Devils Lake Tourism, with applications reviewed by a selection committee representing the Visitors Committee, Chamber, arts community, and local stakeholders.

 

Eligible applicants include downtown property owners, businesses (with owner approval), and nonprofit organizations. Projects must be publicly visible and completed by a qualified artist or muralist.

 

The Downtown Public Art Grant Program is open now and will remain open until funds are fully awarded.
